The Filson Historical Society is Kentucky’s oldest privately supported Historical Society. Founded in 1884, they have been collecting and preserving Kentucky and the Ohio Valley region’s significant stories for 131 years. Then, they ran out of room! They spent the last two years remedying that problem, and in October, 2016, the dust finally cleared and they opened the newly built Owsley Brown II History Center and newly renovated Ferguson Mansion. They have three new rotating public exhibits, two new event spaces, and five floors of additional archive space.
Aside from being the home to some of Kentucky’s most preserved historical artifacts and collections, the Filson also offers a variety of educational programming, events and publications to students and historians.
