If you need to set up MFA for Microsoft 365, you’ve come to the right place.
Multifactor authentication (MFA) is a security method that helps protect your online accounts and personal information by adding an extra layer of security on top of your username and password. It’s like having multiple locks on a door to make it more difficult for someone to break in.
A factor in authentication is a way of proving that you are who you say you are when you try to sign in. The three most common kinds of factors for multifactor authentication (MFA) are:
- Something you know: Typically, it involves a password, PIN, or answering a security question. It’s the most common factor and is often the first line of defense in MFA.
- Something you have: This factor involves possessing a physical item that verifies your identity, like your smartphone, key fob, or secure USB key.
- Something you are: This factor utilizes biometric characteristics unique to you as an individual. It can include fingerprints, facial recognition, or iris scans.
